Terminator Salvation
May. 26th, 2009 10:43 pmSaw Terminator Salvation.
Boy, that's two hours of my life I won't get back. It's also the second movie I've walked out of. Weirdly enough, the first movie also featured Christian Bale - American Psycho, which still tops my worst film list.
McG had it: superb cast, budget that could buy a small country, and a driven crew. But he somehow misspent or misfired all of it. He didn't make the same mistake Zack Snyder did with Watchmen, being too slavish with the original material, but McG was incapable of making the Terminator franchise his. There were moments of brilliance in it, no doubt about that, but it just felt hollow and achy. And since there was no emotional connection to any of the characters, even Worthington's, I didn't care that major characters were in peril. The special effects were great, but without a heart, this movie just died forty minutes in.
It's a pity because in the hands of a good director, this franchise would've kicked off with a damn big bang.
