The Great Friendship Caper: Finch comes up with a way to curb Leon’s tendency to wind up in trouble. Unfortunately for Reese, the NYPD, and several (mostly) innocent bystanders, it involves socializing.
This one popped up the day after I put up my rec. And yes, it's gut-bustingly funny. Leon is a character who cannot get out of trouble, and his trouble usually involves Mobs or Skinheads. But, in spite of all that, he is basically a sweet guy who's got a terrible moral compass when it comes to money. The story also features Sofia who is quickly becoming the Darcy Lewis of PoI fandom. And I loved that girl. She has brass to spare and broke up with her douche drug-dealing boyfriend by having Reese dangle him off the balcony of a very, very tall building.
So, my latest unhealthy television obsession is Person of Interest. Naturally I went looking for fics and found them by the bushel. And let me tell you, the funny ones are off the hilarity scale, partially because the show is so intense and dark. The other reason is the level of craziness in the characters. One's a technopath(Finch) who has confessed to a rather BROAD understanding of the term 'surveillance', and the other is a functioning alcoholic/ex-CIA agent/assassin/sniper(Reese). Add to that volatile mix a crooked cop(Fusco) and another who's on the straight and narrow(Carter), and you got yourself a really good series.

And they just go renewed for season 3 so yay!

Anyway, here are few recs that will have you laughing. It really doesn't matter if you don't know the show. The writing's good enough that you could go in cold and still enjoy them!

Flock Together: Reese has Finch. It’s only fair that Bear gets someone too.
Reese and Finch end up adopting a GORGEOUS Belgian Malinois named Bear, who has repeatedly shown more common sense than both his human handlers combined. So, of course Bear gets himself a Finch. Why? Because of Crazy.

If You Give A Reese A Reason: Five times Reese and Carter act like a sort-of family unit, watch Days of our Lives, and don't sleep at three in the morning.
Sweet, funny, and the tone allows the story in the canonical world without jarring the reader. Also, Carter's reaction to Reese's unspoken motivation is hilarious.

Better Luck This Time: Carter definitely doesn’t have time for a dangerous free agent and a ridiculously powerful hacker to be pining.
So, slash. Carter's voice here is dead-on. And her extreme reluctance to help Reese try to act like a semi-normal suitor is hilarious. But not as hilarious as Reese's interpretation of what a normal date means. Note: Crazy.

I Should Be So Lucky: The first one was a dry brush of lips across his cheekbone, an absent response to an absent question. They’d both paused, stunned, for a moment in the aftermath of it – chests almost brushing, hips almost bumping. He’d had the absurd urge to just reach out, to gather Finch into his arms and do something proper…
Slash and my God, it's friggin' funny. As it turns out Finch's good luck kiss actually brings good luck. And doing what he does, Reese needs all the luck he can get. Unfortunately, it also looks like Fate is using them both as a running gag.

I'm Gonna Do the Things You Do: Shaw needs a place to stay, and Lewis needs a roommate (and a little protection). A match made in the lowest circle of hell. Set after the events of "Relevance."
Shaw was a character in the episode titled 'Relevance'. By the end of the forty some-odd minutes she made Reese look like something out of Masterpiece Theater, and Finch a close kin to Mr. Rogers. Seriously crazy. But man, she does know how to make an exit! One of my favorite stories from PoI fandom.

A Perpendicular Expression: Pissing Finch off never actually ends well; usually it ends like this, with John scaring the shit out of her at two in the morning.
Again, Carter's voice is dead-on. So is Reese, which should tell you how not-sane he is in the actual series.

Scrambling for Fusco: Where Finch and Reese compete for Fusco's heart, and Fusco wants to check himself in a mental ward.
Slash, yeah, but really the CRACK FIC! should earn the real consideration. The story can be a bit jarring because Britishisms slip in, but Finch playing prank on Reese by hacking into his phone, installing child protection software, whose lexicon seems to be based on gay BDSM erotica makes this one a keeper. Also, you should know Reese texts everyone, so you can imagine the building horror of the poor victims who have to actually READ, INTERPRET, and then RESPOND to his messages. Fusco here is the punchline to every gag, but seriously, the guy had it coming.
Big Bang Recs

[livejournal.com profile] rhythmsextion's QB verse has reached its conclusion, and daaaammmnnn, it's good! Hail Mary picks up where Jared's star is beginning to dim as the star QB for the Cowboys. Jensen is re-hired as their assistant coach and sparks begin to fly again. However, this time Jensen comes with the added bonus of a relationship and a newfound sense of peace since he'd come out of the closet.

This particular verse has been my go-to place whenever I'm feeling down. It is long, but the writing is so good that the stories fly!

[livejournal.com profile] annella's D&D story is a hoot. Yes, you read that right: Dungeons and Dragons. Jared is a barbarian, Jeff's a ranger, and Jensen's half-elf wizard. Then it gets funnier and gorier.

BTW, Misha's a cleric, and seriously? That explains so much! :)

[livejournal.com profile] vorpalblades's Life and Times of Lois Lane shows the ups and downs of a marriage when one of them is a bona-fide superhero. Poor Jensen. Hubby saves people from burning buildings but forget to buy the milk. Seriously funny and sharp.

Just a recommendation: eat something before you read The Vernacular Process by [livejournal.com profile] rei_c. There are languid, complete description of meals and man, did I get hungry reading the passages. However, the story's not about food; it's a casefic about Sam and Dean who end up taking a case that never ended for Sam.

The Nightporter is a hard story to pin down, but if I had to, I'd say it was akin to the British films from the sixties. There's a sense of bleakness but at the same time it's beautifully portrayed. I know I'm not selling it well here, but it is a must-read.

Also, it has NOTHING to do with the movie with the same name.

I loved [livejournal.com profile] lazy_daze's Supercross. It takes place in a world I am completely unfamiliar with, and yet the characters were still very familiar. Sam and Dean are stunt bikers in a world where a single competition can get you killed. And, of course, Azazel makes an appearance and yes, he's just as evil. So, so evil.

The story? So, so good.

Theory of Convergence is also very very good. [livejournal.com profile] __tiana__ has a gift for writing romantic and sweet stories that are completely empty of saccharine ... glompiness (for the lack of better word). This particular offering is a verryy loose adaptation of Say Anything, which is a damn good film. But I think Theory of Convergence holds its own very well against the film.

And that's all for now!

[livejournal.com profile] secretlytodream has got to be the best vidder I've seen in years. Her SPN stuff is in [livejournal.com profile] graphicinmotion and if you're going over there, spare yourself an hour because you'll be coasting through all her works. From music to coloring, she's got it down pat. But what's most impressive is her pacing.

Her stuff's professional-grade, and an impressive one at that!
I've been recc'ng sporadically with BB but I thought I make a semi-decent list. Saying that, the first is not a BB but man, it's a doozy.

Want to have a nightmare? This by [livejournal.com profile] wanttobeatree is scary as hell. Not because of gore or violence, but because of the imagery she weaves, as the world decays around Sam.

The Wildest Swan by [livejournal.com profile] selenheart is a sweet but sassy BB story that takes a bunch of fairytales, shakes them together, and then serves the concoction with a tart lemon in a crystal champy glass. So it's all good. It's J2/AU and hardcore R but still ... fairytales! With anime drawings by [livejournal.com profile] yumezaka who is responsible for the icon.

Hit the Ground Crawling is not your average h/c fic. Though it's Dean who is mute, it's Sam who's actually the wounded one. I can't really describe the story well, but [livejournal.com profile] elmo_loves_me did a great job showing that even without his voice and damaged from his time in Hell, Dean is still very much the big brother that Sam so desperately needs. There is wincest, and vivid descriptions of Dean's injuries from his trip downwards. It's 28k but b/c of the way it's written, it's a real fast read, not to mention a satisfying one.

Star Wars, one of my all-time personal favorite epics, have been deanandsam-ed by [livejournal.com profile] __tiana__. If any of you are familiar with her writings, then you know that she can unequivocally succeed in blending the two seamlessly. Of course Kripke said as much in one of his interviews, but to see it laid out here, for one's perusal is something else. Again, it is a quick read, and since both worlds are familiar to most of you guys, it is one hell of a ride. Again, wincest, but seriously - it's [livejournal.com profile] __tiana__ so go hither and don't dither about.

Crush by [livejournal.com profile] sonofabiscuit77 is a hard one to peg. The POV jumps but the change only enhances the impact of the story. The main antagonist is a teenager who is coming to terms with his sexual feelings by falling head-over-heels in love with Dean, his boss and the owner of the popular local garage. Unfortunately for the kid, Dean's got a partner named Sam who's one scary SOB. And his POV? Damn correct. Sam is both nurturing and terrifying to behold. He has managed to tamper down his darkside, but it flares on occasion: mainly where Dean is concerned. I can't give away more than that because it would ruin the pleasure of unraveling how the Winchesters ended up playing normal. However, I can say this is a 'curtain' fic in that the boys have set up house and putzing about like civilians. It should be obvious by now that this story contains Wincest, but don't let that deter you (though looking at my f-list I don't think it will). Dean and Sam's voice are dead accurate, and the magic ... curse ... thingy ... definitely belongs to SPN-land.

Now this story hits two of my buttons. First, it's a case fic, and it takes place in the MET! Yes, NYC! And [livejournal.com profile] benitle has the two boys basically going homeless for most of the story b/c she knows the hotels there would cost arm, leg, and maybe little Dean! Anyway, yes - case fic which we all need to tide us over the summer, and there is Wincest but museum!fic! With Sam and Dean in uniform! Also, Dean has little compunction shooting up priceless antiquities which is all sorts of hilarious, or horrifying: take your pick. The man and his boomstick...

I've read that there are opinions floating about that 2009 BB fics are sub-par. I can't disagree strongly enough. Authors who have returned have definitely polished their talents until they have surpassed their previous offerings, and those who are new (including yours truly) have struggled mightily to match that bar. That in it of itself is nothing to roll eyes at. Anyway, if a story doesn't suit you, just click on the next one. You're bound to hit something that will keep you up until 4 AM. Trust me.

Since SPN fandom seems to be in a rut bigger than the Milky Way, here are two recs to cheer you up.

The Power of Suggestion by [livejournal.com profile] gatorgrrrl. Pretty damn funny and genuinely sweet!

And [livejournal.com profile] with_a_kay's coda for 4.18 where Kripke gave a big fat slobbering kiss on the entire fandom. As far as I'm concerned, this story frenched him right back, along with a knee to the groin, and followed that up with friendly elbow bump on the ribs. Also, it's just hilarious. Besides, it's [livejournal.com profile] with_a_kay so how could it NOT be entertaining?
This totally makes up for the bloody Monday I had yesterday. [livejournal.com profile] fleshflutter is doing a self-rec pimping over here. It is overflowing with lovely goodies and I recommend everyone skedaddle over there now for some good SPN loving. It covers everything from Gen to hardcore, from fics to vids and artwork.

Seriously, go read and then comment because who doesn't want a hearty pat on the back for a job well done?
